Biography

Blending a deep-seated passion for visual communication with a background in medicine, I’ve dedicated over a decade to shedding light on critical social issues—gender, equity, and climate change—through the lens of visual storytelling. My academic journey in medicine, coupled with a commitment to the visual arts, has enabled me to capture and narrate stories that resonate deeply with humanity’s shared experiences, triumphs, and challenges.

My work transcends traditional boundaries, representing the voices of those often unheard, from the front lines of public health battles to the everyday lives of individuals across bustling cities and remote rural areas. These stories are not just captured; they are carefully woven into a narrative that connects public health, education, innovation, the economy, and climate action, aiming to foster understanding, empathy, and change.

My journey in this field began with the prestigious distinction of becoming the first Indian awarded the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain’s Graduate Imaging Scientist (GIS ARPS) qualification. Following this, I spearheaded the creation of Asia’s first Bachelor of Science program in Medical and Scientific Photography at PGIMER Chandigarh, a testament to my commitment to education and innovation in visual storytelling.

My role as a documentary photographer as well as a visual information specialist has seen me collaborate with both government and non-government organizations to document India’s strides in global health, exploring the intricate relationship between public health, climate change, and elementary education. This journey has also led to the creation of significant coffee-table books highlighting India’s public health initiatives, such as vaccination campaigns against vaccine-preventable diseases like the Rota virus, pneumonia, and COVID-19.

Currently, I contribute my skills to organizations like UNICEF, WWF-India, the Clinton Health Access Initiative, Global Health Strategies, JSI India, and QEI. My freelance work with Getty Images further amplifies my reach, allowing me to share powerful visual narratives with a global audience.

As I balance my life between professional pursuits and cherished moments with my family in Tagore’s Sanitniktan in West Bengal, my purpose steadfastly echoes the ethos of Rabindranath: to cast light upon the urgent matters of gender, equity, and climate through my craft. My works aspire to awaken action, nurture compassion, and pave the way towards a world that mirrors the equitable and enduring beauty that Tagore imagined.
